Two Wheel Drive Compared to Four Wheel Drive

If you are looking for a new or used vehicle, there are several choices you might have to make. If you want a car, pickup, or van is where most people will start. You can also choose from two or four wheel drive. This is typically dependent on where you will be driving, and what you feel comfortable with. Some people like four wheel drive because they can travel off road or go through road conditions that might be poor. Other people do not like four wheel drive because they feel it is too powerful for them.

Differences Between Four Wheel Drive and Two Wheel

There are a few subtle differences between four wheel drive vehicles and two wheel drive vehicles. The subtle differences include that the tires might be of a higher quality and tread pattern. While this might not sound like a big deal, it is when you go to replace the tires. This is because the cost will typically be higher. Since you are buying a four wheel drive vehicle it is assumed you will be traveling over rugged terrain and needing the thicker tread. Another difference in the four wheel drive is the amount of fuel it uses. Even when you do not have the vehicle in four wheel drive, the engine will burn more gas because of the engine set up. Vehicles that travel over rugged terrain will usually need a more powerful engine to get through, therefore the gas to power it will be higher. When you drive short distances you might not realize how often you are filling up, but when you commute a distance to work and drive around a lot, the miles will add up quickly.

Benefits of Four Wheel Drive

Four wheel drive can be very beneficial. This includes if you live in the country where snow will drift and pile up in a short amount of time. Sometimes the country roads will not get plowed until later in the day. This will make it up to you to find your way to work.

Added Control on the Roads

Driving a four wheel drive vehicle on snowy roads will give you a bit more control. Remember to drive carefully when the roads are icy. We can also advise you on the different options you have, as well as helping decide what type of vehicle is best for you.

Inspect the Heating System for Your Vehicle

As winter approaches, it is important to make sure you stay warm and comfortable in your vehicle. Along with checking the heating system, you will want to check the defrost vents for the vehicle. This is important because it will help clear away any frost or fog from the windshield and other windows. On most vehicles, there is also a rear defroster. This will allow the best overall visibility for your vehicle. Having the heating system maintained will mean that you have the best overall comfort in your vehicle. This will mean that you will need to get the best service in order to maintain your heating system at all times. As long as you know what you are looking for, you will be able to get the help you will need to stay comfortable. There are a few things that you should be looking for whenever you check to make sure that your heating system is working properly. You should always make sure that you are checking your fluids like antifreeze in order to maintain your engine properly while it is cold. You will also need to make sure that your heater is being maintained by trained professionals like those certified form AAA. It is also a good idea to make sure that your air filters are replaced in your ventilation system. This will help to make sure that your car will heat up faster throughout the winter.

The Engine Needs Special Care in the Cold Weather

Among the things that you will need to make sure that you have is antifreeze in the engine. This is important because the engine will seize up when you are trying to start it and it will not work properly as you are trying to drive. This will affect your ability to have a warm car. It will also stop you from being able to go where you want to go. If you notice that the antifreeze is low more frequently, make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it for a leak in the system.

Regular Maintenance Is Important

By having the vehicle in for regular maintenances, we will be able to provide you with the help that you will need to inspect your engine as the cold weather approaches. Getting a cold weather diagnostic done will allow your entire heating system to be looked over so that you will be able to get the heat that you will need throughout the winter. In some cases, we will even inspect the ventilation system in your vehicle. Keeping the vehicle safe and warm should be a top priority for any car owner.

Changing the Air Filters Regularly

You will also want to make sure that the air filters in the vehicle are changed. These affect the heating systems by slowing the airflow from the heater to the rest of the vehicle. These should only need to be changed about once every two years depending on the amount that you use your vehicle. Not only will you have cleaner air to breathe, you will have more heat so that you will be able to stay nice and warm throughout the winter.

Ensuring Proper Visibility When You Drive

To increase the safety of the vehicle when you drive, make sure the visibility is the best it can be. By having good visibility, you will know where your vehicle is on the road. It can also help you to be alert for any object or drive on the road as well. Make sure the windshield is clean and clear so that your visibility is the best that it can be. Also check the lights on your vehicle. If you are uncertain about the safety on your vehicle, make sure to bring it in and we can inspect the vehicle for you. This can help to increase the comfort and reliability of the vehicle.

Clean off the Windshield

The most important part of your visibility is the windshield. It will need to be clean from any dirt, build up of grime, or even fingerprints. The best thing is to do is check the exterior and interior part of the windshield. If you notice a divot or crack on the windshield, it is recommended that you have it replaced as soon as you can. Any defect in the windshield can obstruct your vision. This could cover any object or animal that might be on the surface of the road when you are driving. Also make sure that the windshield wiper fluid is filled up to the correct amount and is able to wash the windshield when you travel.

Check the Lights on the Vehicle

When inspecting your vehicle, also make sure to check the headlights. This is important because the headlights will illuminated the road ahead of you. With out proper lighting, you will not be able to view the road properly and the safety of your vehicle will decrease. Check the taillights as well. Also remember to check the blinkers on the vehicle. These are important because they will alert other drivers to what direction you will be turning. Having working blinkers can prevent an accident because the chance of being rear ended will decrease. When you check the lights, also inspect them for how clean they are, as well as how they are positioned. You will want to make sure they are aimed correctly to illuminate the road ahead of you. If you are unsure about the lights on your vehicle, make sure to bring it in. We can inspect the lights for you, so the performance and effectiveness of them can be at the best.

The Heater should be Working

Along with checking the lights and windshield, also check the heating system in your vehicle. This is important because it can help defrost the window in the winter from any fog or frost. This will help improve your visibility when you drive. Make sure to check all the windows in the vehicle so you can see out of all of them properly. Besides defrost, make sure heat is coming out of the vents. This can help keep you and your passengers warm and comfortable. If there is an issue with the heating system, bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it for you.

The Importance of a Good Battery in Your Vehicle

Knowing about your vehicle is important. This can help you to determine when and if there is an issue that should be addressed. Your vehicle relies on many different things in order to operate correctly. Among the important components your vehicle needs in order to operate correctly is a working battery. The batteries you will use will allow you to do so much more than just start the vehicle. You will be able to do everything from using the lights to cool your engine. It is important to make sure that you are buying the right kind of battery for your vehicle. This will help in making sure that your vehicle is safe and efficient. There might be a few signs that the battery is not operating the way that it should be. If the vehicle becomes difficult to start and operate, a new battery might be needed. The battery is important because not only does it run your vehicle, but it also will make sure that your anti theft systems are operating correctly. It will help in regulating the electronic fuel injection. Additionally, it will help in making sure that you are getting the engine capacity that you will need in order to get as much power as you will need whenever you step on the gas.

Securing Your Vehicle when Parking

Whenever you park your vehicle, you will likely engage anti theft systems to protect your investment. These are entirely reliant on the batteries to be able to function properly. You can buy models, which will allow you to have the protection from even a touch to the vehicle. The better the system is, the more important it is that you are using a good quality battery which is designed for use in your vehicle. By knowing that your battery is in good condition, you will be able to have the assurance that you will be able to have a vehicle whenever you return.

Getting Better Performance

Another thing that batteries are responsible for providing power to is the electronic fuel injection. While it is possible that the engine might run off of the power from the alternator, it is important to remember that you will need to have somewhere to store the power whenever it is not being directly used by the engine. Whenever there are larger drains from the engine, it is good to know you have a reliable battery to provide it. This will give you the confidence that you will need to step on the accelerator when you need to.

Engine Incorporation

The battery you purchase also affects the engine capacity. This is something which will affect the overall performance of the vehicle because it can either increase the ability of the vehicle to utilize gas and develop more power or it can cause the engine to languish and provide sluggish performance at best. Always make sure that the battery is of good quality as well as making sure that it is connected properly. By checking the battery you can have a pleasant drive.

Regular Maintenance can Prevent Issues

To help keep your vehicle operating efficiently, make sure that you come in on a regular basis for scheduled maintenances. This can be beneficial and help save you money in the long run. If anything is ever out of the norm, make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it for you. It is important to get your vehicle in the shop before it actually needs to. We can check the tire pressure, evaluate all of the fluids within the care, inspect the brake pads, and even see what condition the belts are in. Having an issue resolved at the first sign of it can help prevent further damage to that part or other parts of the vehicle. If you ignore the issue, it can lead to further problems that could also cost you more in the long run.

Check the Engine Regularly

auto-repair-9The engine is an important part of your vehicle. When the engine does not work, because there is a fuel injection blockage or there is a coolants situation, it needs to be addressed. Both of those issues could have been prevented with a bit of fuel injector cleaner and a check of the fluid levels during a routine maintenance inspection. When those items are not inspected in a preventative matter, they can build up and create other parts of the engine to fail. If the engine fails, you will not be able to drive to your destination. If you notice any strange noises coming from your engine, make sure to bring it in as soon as possible so we can inspect it for you.

Do not forget about the Tires

Tires are another very important component of a vehicle. During an inspection, the tread of the tire can be measured along with the air pressure. When one or more does not meet the normal standards, it can be adjusted. Add air to the tires or consider buying new ones if the tread is extremely low or even gone.  Do not drive on tires with little tread as it can lead to an accident. We can also advise you on the options you have so the vehicle is as reliable as possible when you drive it.

Notice if the Brakes are poor

The brakes allow you to slow down and stop the vehicle when needed. So having brakes that work properly and can stop on a dime is important. An auto service center can take a look at the brakes and measure how much is left and how soon you should think about replacing those brake pads. The rotors and the calipers might also need to be changed.

The Lights should be Aimed Properly

Fixing lights is simply a matter of getting a new light bulb installed or checking the wires to see if there is a short somewhere. Make sure to check the headlights, taillights, and turn signals. If you notice an issue with the lights, make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can fix the lights for you.

Safety Tips for Your Vehicle

There are a few ways that you can make sure your car stays in tip-top shape as long as you own it. A vehicle can last for several years with the correct care and maintenance being performed on it. There are also things inside the vehicle that should be checked so that all of the passengers inside it can be safe from any harm that may occur on a trip. You can perform the maintenance inspection or preventative measures or bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it. If there is an issue with the vehicle, we can bring it to your attention so that the issue can be resolved. This can help to save you time, money, and stress in the long run. If the brake pads start to wear down it will begin having friction with the brake rotors. This could result in a costly repair bill if you choose to ignore the issue.

Check the Brakes

The brake pads wear down over time and need to be replaced. If you hear any screeching or grinding noises, make sure to bring the vehicle in as soon as possible. We can inspect the brake system for you for any signs of parts that need to be repaired or replaced. Checking the brake system can help to improve the safety when you drive.

The Seat Belts should be operational

Seat belts are what keep you safely in a vehicle as it drives. Every seatbelt in the car should pull out and clamp in to a holder. Children in the backseat might also need a restraint seat. Making sure that the seat belts can work properly will improve the safety of everyone in the vehicle when you drive.

The Tire Pressure should be Checked

Incorrect air pressure can lead to a lot of problems. When tires do not have the right pressure in them, they can wear faster or unevenly. Tires that do not have proper tread in places can lose control in slippery conditions and cause you to be in an accident. Keeping your tires at the proper pressure can make them last longer and prevent you from being in an accident. Checking the tires on a regular basis can help improve the traction and comfort level when you drive.

Top off the Fluids

Another important part to inspect in the vehicle is the fluid levels. This is important because the fluids all have a specific part they help to lubricate. If the fluid is down, it could increase the chance that an issue occurs with parts of your vehicle. When you get your oil changed or even during a yearly maintenance check, the fluids in the vehicle should be checked over as well. There is transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, anti-freeze, and even the oil that needs to be checked regularly. If the fluid is bad or low, it can be replaced so no long term damage happens to the components of your vehicle.

Signs it is Time to Replace the Tires

Some vehicle maintenances are standard and may be easy to remember. There are some that are more difficult to pay attention to until an issue occurs. It is recommended to go to regularly scheduled maintenances based on the manufacture or our recommendation. This can help keep your vehicle working in the best condition possible. If you notice an issue that is starting to form between visits, it is important to have it inspected as soon as you can. This can help to increase the safety and reliability of the vehicle when you drive.

Knowing how the Vehicle Drives

When you purchase tires, they are given a rating for how many miles they are expected to last. For instance, your tires are expected to last approximately 40,000 miles. The only problem is, that does not mean your vehicle may actually drive 40,000 miles on those tires. The number of miles is based on optimum conditions that include good weather, nicely paved roads without bumps and potholes, and perfect air pressure in the tire. All three of which are items that fluctuate over the span of time you own your tires. If you do not maintain the tires properly, they can wear out sooner than they should. One way to tell if it is getting close to a replacement is how the tires handle. If the vehicle pulls in one direction or the other, the tires may need to be inspected for how they handle. Also make sure to check the tread on the tires so they are wearing evenly. If the tires are wearing unevenly, make sure that the tires are rotated or aligned. We can also recommend what the best option is to have the tires rotating effectively.

Have the Tires checked Regularly

The tires will need to be inspected on a regular basis. This helps to notice any wear or tear that they might have. You can bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the tires on the vehicle for you. We will notice how much tread is wearing on the tires, and if there are any bald spots as well. If there is uneven tread wear, an alignment or rotation might be needed. If the tires are bald, they will need to be replaced as soon as possible. Also check the condition of the tires. If you notice any puncture marks or cracks, it may be more cost efficient to have them replaced rather than to patch them with each issue.

Check the Tread Amount on the Tires

Bald tires and ones with little tread do not have good traction in the rain or in the snow. Driving on tires at high speeds in those conditions could set you up for hydroplaning and even a potential accident. Take a penny and place it upside down in the groove of the tires. If you see the top of Lincoln’s head, then there is not enough tread on the tires. Make sure to bring the vehicle in and we will check the tread amount on the tires.

Signs of an Issue with the Suspension System

When inspecting your vehicle, also remember to be aware of things that you may not visually see. This includes the suspension system. Noticing an issue with the suspension system could be any rough feelings that you are aware of when driving. If you experience more bouncing when hitting a small bump, it could indicate an issue with the suspension system. The suspension system includes the shocks, struts, and tie rods. These work together in order to prevent your vehicle from bouncing uncontrollably when you drive down the road. When the steering wheel and the bounce of the car no longer jive, then you might have a problem. As you turn a corner, the steering wheel should come back to the center point so you do not have to work it back yourself. Another problem with the suspension system is when you have noises coming from the vehicle as you go over bumps. It means the parts, such as the shocks or struts are wearing out and need to be replaced. Make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can inspect it for you. This can help you get back to a more comfortable and pleasant driving experience.

Check the Shocks on the Vehicle

The shocks absorb the shock while you drive down the road when hitting a bump. The steering in the vehicle works with the shocks to make sure the vehicle body and the engine work together. The frame may want to bounce all over, but the shocks will holds it in and keep you traveling smoothly. If you notice that the vehicle is handling poorly when you hit bumps or rough roads, the suspension may have an issue. Make sure to bring your vehicle in and we can inspect the suspension system and shocks.

Remember the Struts

The struts are tied in with the shocks on the vehicle. They work in order to keep the shocks moving up and down properly as the car travels over a bumpy road. Shocks and struts will both wear out of a vehicle over time and need to be replaced after several thousand miles. For vehicles that do a lot of driving on bumpy roads or off road dirt trails, they might need to be checked more often in order to ensure everything is in working order.

The Tie Rods are Important

The tie rods are another part to inspect. They connect both sides of the vehicle together. For example, a tie rod will connect the right side tire with the left side tire. They will move together and work independently of the front of the car. This is true even though they are all working together to move the vehicle forward. In other words, the tire in the front may be absorbing the jolt of a bump while the back tire is just driving and the people sitting inside the vehicle will not know any differently, because they are just getting a smooth ride.

Inspecting the Fluid Levels is Important

oil-change-3

When inspecting your vehicle, remember to check under the hood. There are a number of fluids working in your vehicle all the time. These fluids each have a specific task that they help improve the vehicle. Without these fluids, your vehicle will not run at peak performance, you risk mechanical damage, and it might even leave you stranded. Make sure to bring the vehicle in on a regular basis so we can check the fluids for you. If you notice you have to refill the reservoir often, it could indicate there is a leak somewhere in the system.

The Fluid will be Less Effective as it Ages

Having the fluids checked can ensure they are at the proper levels and are not in need of a change.  Fluid levels decrease over time as they work and also become dirty. At some point, they become so dirty that they are no longer doing their job. Because they are exposed to heat and friction, many vehicle fluids break down. Many fluids used in a vehicle are toxic. Proper handling and disposal is critical. In addition, using the wrong type of fluid can damage vehicle components. Vehicle maintenance should always be a high priority. Vehicle fluid checks are a big part of that process and must be done on schedule.

The Importance of the Fluid in your Vehicle

Most vehicle fluids serve as lubrication for parts or regulate vehicle temperature. Engine oil is a great example. It keeps the vehicle engine lubricated, prevents overheating, and also keeps the engine clean by carrying away debris. A combination of water and a coolant keep your radiator from overheating. The mixture is typically 50% water and 50% coolant. The transmission fluid works as a lubricant too, but also serves a very different purpose. It provides the pressure or force to actually operate the components of your transmission. There is fluid in the power steering system that enables the smooth operation of the system and provides the same application of force or power as the transmission fluid. A whining sound when a vehicle is turning can be a sign that power steering fluid is low. With anything unusual with the vehicle, make sure to bring it in as soon as you can so we can inspect it.

Have the Fluid Replaced based on a Recommended Schedule

To help keep the vehicle operating at top performance levels, make sure to bring it in on a regular basis. This can help it lasting as long as possible. We can make certain that the recommended type of fluid is used if an inspection shows that vehicle fluid is low or dirty. Often times after old fluid has been drained from a vehicle, a special cleaning agent will be used to flush any remaining debris from the system. After this process new fluid is added. A careful record of vehicle fluid checks will insure that the schedule suggested by the owner’s manual is followed and provides a checklist to make sure that all fluids are being checked. This can help provide you with a safe and reliable vehicle.

The Tires are Important for the Vehicle

Your tires are the only contact your car has with the road, so keeping them in good shape is important. Having good tires can help to improve the performance and protection of your vehicle, which demands attention to help keep your tires like new. If you notice that the tires are starting to wear unevenly, make sure to bring it in as soon as possible so we can inspect the vehicle and tires for you.

Signs that the Tires will Need Replacing

The performance of your vehicle tires is not only critical to the safety, but also to the performance and efficiency as well. By knowing the signs of your tires wear and tear, it is easier to indicate whether they need replacing or not. One way to determine if your tires are going bad is to take a close look at the tread depth. By using a tread depth indicator, you are able to gage when the tread is worn. If your tire tread is down to 1/16th of an inch, then it is time to think about purchasing new tires. You can also check the tread by using a penny. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, then new tires might be needed. Also check for cracks or cuts in your tires sidewall. The more miles your tires have driven the more likely there are to be cracks and blemishes. Noticing a bulge in your tire’s sidewall will also indicate that a weak spot has developed and should be fixed immediately. If you notice irregular or uneven tread wear, this could mean that your wheel alignment might need to be altered through a tire rotation. Having an improper alignment or worn suspension can dramatically shorten the life of your tires. By checking your tires on a regular basis, you are able to catch problems sooner, while also saving money in the long run.

Tips to Improve the Life of the Tires

Proper tire care is simple.  By doing a regular tire inspection, you can potentially save yourself a lot of money. By having your tire pressure checked by us, we will be able to tell if there is a hole or leak, which could lead to flats and accidents. A modest jolt from hitting a curb or pothole can throw your tire out of alignment. By having us align and rotate your tires periodically you can ensure that there will be less wear and tear on your wheels, allowing for longer driving time. Also, by regularly checking your tire’s tread for any unusual wear, you can note and fix any problems you might see before things get worse and more dangerous.

Advantages of Regular Inspections

Having a set of new tires will not only provide safety for yourself and your passengers, but it will increase the performance of your vehicle in the rain, snow, or ice. Another advantage of new tires is achieving better gas mileage. When the tread on your tire is worn, it makes your car work harder to put power on the ground. Your tires should be balanced and mounted properly to ensure the best results and decrease premature wear and tear. Proper tire inspections can help improve the safety and reliability for your vehicle.
