When you own a vehicle, you will want to keep it running in the most efficient condition possible. The most important thing you can do is to go to regularly scheduled maintenances. This will allow us to inspect the vehicle for any parts or components that might be causing an issue with the vehicle. We can have them repaired quickly to help get your vehicle back to being safe and reliable. Along with regular inspections by us, there are also some things you can check on the vehicle yourself. Make sure to check the tires on a regular basis. This is important because the tires are the only part that has direct contact with the surface of the road. Check the inflation of the tires, the tread depth, as well as the overall condition of the tires. By doing this, you can help make sure your vehicle is able to drive no matter when you might need to use it.

Check the Inflation of the Tires

When you inspect the tires, the first thing you should do is check the air inflation. This is important because the tires should be properly inflated in order to rotate efficiently. If the tires are over inflated, it can increase the chance that they pick up sharp objects or debris on the roadway. Tires that are under inflated will have a better chance to blow out, as the tire does not rotate properly. Poorly inflated tires can also result in poor fuel mileage for your vehicle. This is because the vehicle will have to use more fuel and power to rotate the tires efficiently. If you notice that one or all of the tires need air added, it could be an indication of a leak. Make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the air pressure in the tires for you.

The Tread Depth is Important

When you inspect the tires, also remember to check the tread depth. The tread is another important part of the tires. This is what helps to keep traction on the surface of the road when you drive. Without good tread, the vehicle could slide or skid on the road. Checking the tread can be quick and easy. Get a penny and place it upside down in the groove of the tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, then the tread is too low. If you are unsure of the proper tread amount, you can also bring the vehicle in. We can inspect the tires for you, to ensure the appropriate amount of tread is there. If there is an issue, we can advise you on the options you have.

The Overall Condition is Important

The tires will also need to be in proper condition. Check for any bulges or puncture marks you might see on the tires. This will help prevent any sudden issue you have with the tires. By noticing an issue at the first sign, you can have the tire repaired or replaced. This can help to make your vehicle safe and reliable when you drive.
