How the Engine Works

The engine works on the basic principle of causing a rapid burst to cause pistons to go up and down. By doing this power is created, which is then shifted to the wheels, as needed. This includes the front, the rear, or all four depending on the current transmission configuration. The pistons go up and down in their cylinders; as long as there is limited friction between them the engine performs acceptably. The cylinders lacking proper lubrication is the source of the most dangerous problems facing the engine, as a lack of lubricants can cause the engine to seize up and either freeze.

There must a certain amount of pressure kept on the pistons at all times; that is, in order for the explosion of gas to properly move the pistons up and down the explosion must not be able to dissipate. The piston rings keep up the pressure by not allowing much air to escape. At the same time the piston must return to the starting position; this is accomplished through flywheels. Between the flywheels returning the piston to the starting position and the pistons rings not allowing the force of the explosions to dissipate, the pistons are forced to keep going up and down, powering the vehicle.
